At Mogumber Park we believe this is one of the most important moments in a young horse's life – we take every care to ensure that our weanlings are confident, independent and well educated.

For resident mares we start this process immediately after foaling – head collars are placed on foals and they are led next to the mare each time she comes in for examination. At weaning, foals are boxed for a number of days, leading is reinforced, they are groomed and basic groundwork is done. They are then turned out into medium sized paddocks with one or two friends.

Over the next 6 months our weanlings will come in for 4 or 5 days at a time, learn to lunge, get hosed and rugged and generally start to learn the routine of becoming a racehorse.

By the time our babies come in for yearling preparation the hard work is done and we can concentrate on getting our horses fit and looking well, ready to start their new career.

Weaning/Halter Breaking costs $550 plus the charges for being boxed.
